2023 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 186 BY SENATOR PEACOCK A RESOLUTION To commend the two hundred thirty-fifth anniversary of the ratification of the U.S. Constitution and the annual luncheon by the Shreveport Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. WHEREAS, September 17, 2023, marks the two hundred thirty-fifth anniversary of the ratification of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this magnificent document and its memorable anniversary; and to the patriotic celebrations, including the Shreveport Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, which will commemorate the occasion; and WHEREAS, on August 2, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued Public Law 915 guaranteeing the issuance of a proclamation, each year, by the President of the United States of America designating September seventeenth through the twenty-third as Constitution Week; and WHEREAS, our citizens should reaffirm the ideals the framers of the Constitution had by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained; and WHEREAS, there should always be reflection on the privilege of being an American citizen with all the rights and responsibilities given; and WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States of America embodies the principles of limited government in a republic dedicated to rule by law; and WHEREAS, schools should read and study the Constitution and be taught its principles, including federalism, checks and balances, separation of powers, popular sovereignty, and the necessary and proper commerce and supremacy clauses; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 186 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the United States Constitution should be vigilantly protected; and WHEREAS, all civic and fraternal organizations throughout the United States should be encouraged to recognize this occasion with appropriate programs of teaching, serving, and celebrating; and WHEREAS, this year's luncheon will be held on September 19, 2023, at Rose Park Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Shreveport Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on the annual observance of Constitution Week in Northwest Louisiana.
