2023 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 193 BY SENATOR ROBERT MILLS A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate the State of Israel upon the occasion of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the rebirth of the modern State of Israel, to recognize the contributions of Israel to humankind, and to express support for the people of Israel and the Jewish state. WHEREAS, Israel was originally and historically granted her lands under and through the oldest recorded deed, as provided in the Old Testament, a tome of scripture held sacred and revered by Jews and Christians alike as presenting the acts and words of God; and WHEREAS, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob promised in Genesis 12:3 to bless those that bless Israel, through the promise He made to Abraham: "And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curseth thee: and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed"; and WHEREAS, the internationally recognized legal basis for the establishment of the modern State of Israel was a binding resolution under international law, which was unanimously adopted by the League of Nations in 1922 and subsequently affirmed by both houses of the United States Congress; and WHEREAS, on May 14, 1948, the provisional government of Israel proclaimed the rebirth of the State of Israel and on that same date the United States of America, via President Harry S. Truman, recognized the provisional Jewish government as the de facto authority of the Jewish State of Israel, thereby fulfilling the Biblical prophecy in Isaiah 66:8 that the nation would be (re)born in a single day; and WHEREAS, Israel established a form of government based on the precepts of liberty, justice, and peace taught by the Hebrew prophets upholding the full social and political equality of all her citizens without distinction of race, creed, or sex, while guaranteeing full freedom of conscience, worship, education, and culture; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 193 ENROLLED WHEREAS, over the centuries the city of Jerusalem has come to symbolize the love of the Jewish people for their ancient homeland and on June 7, 1967, the third day of the Six Day War, soldiers of Israel's Defense Forces entered the old city of Jerusalem and reunited the city, thereby making Jerusalem once again an integral part of the Jewish state; and WHEREAS, Louisiana has a special connection to Israel and many towns and cities across Louisiana bear the names of Biblical cities, such as Bethel, Hebron, and Shiloh; and WHEREAS, the modern State of Israel has contributed to the rest of the world through significant and extraordinary developments in science, medicine, agriculture, and technology; and WHEREAS, this year marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of the founding of the modern State of Israel in the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the State of Israel upon the seventy-fifth anniversary of the rebirth of the modern State of Israel, recognizes the contributions of Israel to humankind, and expresses support for the people of Israel and the Jewish state. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted to the Consul General of the State of Israel to the Southwest in Houston, Texas, to the Embassy of Israel to the United States in Washington, D.C. for transmission to the proper authorities in the State of Israel, to the Louisiana Chapter of American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and the Louisiana Chapter of Christians United for Israel.
