2023 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 34 BY SENATOR PEACOCK A RESOLUTION To designate Monday, April 24, 2023, as Louisiana Occupational Therapy Association Day at the state capitol. WHEREAS, Louisiana has over three thousand licensed occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants; and WHEREAS, the month of April is Occupational Therapy month; and WHEREAS, occupational therapists use a holistic approach to help people participate in the things they want and need to do; and WHEREAS, the benefits of occupational therapy include reducing fall risks and nursing home admissions, lowering readmission rates to hospitals, lowering rates of depression, and improving quality of life for people with chronic disease; and WHEREAS, occupational therapists use the patient's active participation in functional activities and simulated work tasks to improve the individual's function, making them a more productive member of society by returning them to independence at work or home; and WHEREAS, in the industrial setting, occupational therapists develop and implement fit for duty and injury prevention programs, thereby keeping employees healthy and their employers financially competitive. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Monday, April 24, 2023, as Louisiana Occupational Therapy Association Day at the state capitol and does hereby call upon the people of Louisiana to celebrate the achievements of occupational therapists who keep our communities healthy and active through their good work.
