2023 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 59 BY SENATOR ROBERT MILLS A RESOLUTION To commend Elizabeth Ann Howard Lewis on the occasion of her ninetieth birthday. WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ann Howard Lewis was born May 7, 1933, and is the eldest child of Gene and Lillian Howard; and WHEREAS, after graduating high school in May of 1951 from St. Vincent's Academy where she attended since the first grade, Liz married Robert W. Lewis in October of that year; and WHEREAS, Ronald W. Lewis, the first of Liz and Robert's two children, was born on July 11, 1952, and Laurie Lewis Mitchell was born on March 8, 1961; and WHEREAS, soon after her high school graduation, Liz entered the workforce and in 1953, she began a twenty-five year career with Texas Eastern Pipeline Company that ended when the company relocated to Houston, Texas; and WHEREAS, beginning in 1980, Liz was the executive assistant to John L. Copeland at Copeland Oil Company for a decade while also working part-time for Robert and Vassar Mills at VWM Properties; and WHEREAS, Liz's part-time work expanded to full-time employment with VWM Properties and because of her strong work ethic, her responsibilities grew beyond executive assistant to office manager, steward of the checkbook, division orders, and oil and gas leases; and WHEREAS, it was only her husband's serious illness in 2009 that could have interrupted her stellar professional career; and WHEREAS, always willing to share her vast professional experience with others, Liz was a longtime member of Professional Secretaries International, where she served on numerous committees and as treasurer and president in 1984; and WHEREAS, she was also a valuable member of the Red River Desk and Derrick Club for many years and enjoyed lunches and gatherings with her former Texas Eastern Pipeline employees. Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 59 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Elizabeth Ann Howard Lewis on her many years of dedicated service, her caring devotion to family, and she is most deserving of recognition for reaching the inspiring milestone of her ninetieth birthday.
