SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 69

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Ms. Erica Spruille on becoming a member of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority Incorporated.
WHEREAS, Erica, a college educated woman who is committed to community
service, academic achievement, and the quest for excellence in all endeavors, has
accomplished a goal she set to join a distinguish group of women; and
WHEREAS, on January 13, 1913, twenty-two illustrious Black women founded
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., at Howard University; and
WHEREAS, those twenty-two women were aware that there was and would always
be a need for Black women to play an active role in the struggles concerning
African-Americans and the need for community involvement; and
WHEREAS, in the past one hundred-ten years, the vision of the founders has
withstood all odds and the vision is still being strengthened each day with women like Erica;
and
WHEREAS, Erica joins the over three hundred fifty thousand members in one
thousand collegiate and alumnae chapters in the United States, Canada, Japan, Bermuda, the
Bahamas, Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, Southern Africa, United Arab Emirates, Germany,
Korea, and West Africa; and
WHEREAS, Erica is a true believer in the five-point thrust of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority which are: educational development, economic development, physical and mental
health, political awareness and involvement, and international awareness and involvement;
and
WHEREAS, the success of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority's public service programs has
depended upon the continuous interaction of each member, both locally and nationally; and
WHEREAS, Erica and her line sisters will forever be known in Deltaland as the
"PRESIDENTed 86" line; and
WHEREAS, Erica was number fifty-two on the line and given the name "Merry
Maker"; and

WHEREAS, Erica's life has been full of many accomplishments, and becoming a
"Delta" is one of her proudest "OOOO-OOP".
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Erica Spruille on becoming a member of Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Ms. Erica Spruille.
