2023 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 71 BY SENATOR SMITH A RESOLUTION To commend Clarence H. "Sonny" Savoie on the occasion of his retirement from the St. Charles Parish School Board. WHEREAS, Clarence H. "Sonny" Savoie is a native of Des Allemands, Louisiana, and resides in Paradis with is wife, Merle DeJean Savoie, and they have two children and four grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Clarence H. "Sonny" Savoie graduated from Hahnville High School in 1959; and WHEREAS, Clarence enlisted in the United States Army and served for three years, and after his military service, he began his career at Texaco, where he worked for over thirty-two years; and WHEREAS, in 1986 Clarence was elected to the St. Charles Parish School Board and served as a member for 36 years; and WHEREAS, in addition to his service and dedication as a school board member he has been involved in community and professional organizations, including the National Parent Teacher Association Board of Directors, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, Louisiana Board of Regents, St. Charles Public Schools Foundation, Inc., Paradis Volunteer Fire Department, Waterworks District in St. Charles Parish, River Region Chamber of Commerce, Rotary International, and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; and WHEREAS, he has held several national and state positions in many different organizations including president of the National School Boards Association, National Federation of Urban and Suburban School Districts, Louisiana School Boards Association, Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 71 ENROLLED and the Louisiana State Parent Teacher Association; and WHEREAS, he has received numerous honors throughout his tenure on the school board; he was selected as the 2008 Louisiana School Board Member of the Year and the 2009 Employee Support for the National Guard and Support Award; and WHEREAS, his commitment to the education of students and their families will forever be remembered throughout the St. Charles Parish School Board office and by administrators, staff, students, and parents. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Clarence H. "Sonny" Savoie on his many accomplishments and does hereby extend heartfelt wishes for a long and happy retirement. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Clarence H.
