2023 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 90 BY SENATOR CARTER A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate Mr. Ismail Esau as Minister Plenipotentiary, Deputy Chief of Mission with the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Washington, D.C. WHEREAS, a Deputy Chief of Mission is usually the second-in-command assigned to an embassy or other diplomatic mission and serves as the acting chief of mission when the titular head of mission is outside the host country; and WHEREAS, Mr. Esau is a career diplomat with the South African Department of International Relations & Cooperation (DIRCO), having served in both bilateral and multilateral areas of engagement since joining DIRCO in 2005; and WHEREAS, he has held numerous posts within DIRCO, and prior to his current assignment served as Director: Levant and Director: Southeast Asia; and WHEREAS, prior to joining DIRCO, Mr. Esau served as policy adviser at South Africa's Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition, and served as South Africa's economic representative to Germany at the South African Consulate in Munich; and WHEREAS, Mr. Esau's long and varied career with the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa has prepared him well for this significant post. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Ismail Esau for becoming the Minister Plenipotentiary for the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Washington, D.C.
