INSURANCE:  Extends the Sledge Jeansonne Louisiana Insurance Fraud Prevention Act
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 22:1931.13, relative to the Sledge Jeansonne Louisiana
3 Insurance Fraud Prevention Act; to extend the termination date of the Act; to provide
4 for effectiveness; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 22:1931.13 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
7 ยง1931.13. Termination of Part
8	This Part shall terminate on July 1, 2024 July 1, 2028.
9 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
10signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
11by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.  If
12vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
13effective on the day following such approval.

Abstract: Extends the Sledge Jeansonne La. Insurance Fraud Prevention Act.
Present law provides for the Sledge Jeansonne La. Insurance Fraud Prevention Act. 
Generally authorizes the attorney general to pursue a civil action against anyone who
commits fraud or any other illegal practice to obtain insurance payments.
Present law terminates the Sledge Jeansonne La. Insurance Fraud Prevention Act on July 1,
2024.
Proposed law extends the Act's termination date to July 1, 2028. Otherwise retains present
law.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
