1 AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 17:436.5, relative to sickle cell records; to report a sickle cell disease
3 diagnosis in certain circumstances; to establish a sickle cell disease management and
4 treatment plan; and to provide for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 17:436.5 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง436.5. Sickle cell disease
8 The parent or guardian of a student with sickle cell disease may submit to the
9 administration of the student's school a sickle cell disease management and treatment
10 plan developed by the student's parent and treating physician for review and use by
11 school employees with whom the student has regular interaction. The plan shall
12 include the following:
13 (1) The healthcare accommodations the student may require at school or
14 while participating in a school activity, including but not limited to unrestricted
15 access to the restroom and to adequate hydration and limitations on required physical
16 activity.
