BUILDING CODES: Provides relative to permits for construction
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 40:1730.23(K), relative to permits for construction; to provide for the
3 enforcement of building codes by municipalities and parishes; and to provide for
4 related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. 40:1730.23(K) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง1730.23. Enforcement of building codes by municipalities and parishes
8 * * *
9 K. Any municipality or parish which issues a permit for construction
10 pursuant to this Part shall do all of the following:
11 (1) Permit and inspect all buildings other than one- and two-family dwellings
12 for roof construction and reroofing in compliance with the International Building
13 Code Chapter 15 requirements as adopted and promulgated by the Louisiana State
14 Uniform Construction Code.
15 (2) Permit and inspect one- and- two family dwellings for roof construction
16 and reroofing in compliance with the International Residential Code Chapter 8 and
17 9 requirements as adopted and promulgated by the Louisiana State Uniform
18 Construction Code.
19 (3) Provide, upon request, individual permit data.

Abstract: Provides relative to permits for construction.
Present law provides for the enforcement of building codes by municipalities and parishes.
Proposed law retains present law and adds that any municipality or parish which issues a
permit for construction pursuant to this Part shall do all of the following:
(1)Permit and inspect all buildings other than one- and two-family dwellings for roof
construction and reroofing in compliance with the International Building Code
Chapter 15 requirements as adopted and promulgated by the Louisiana State
Uniform Construction Code.
(2)Permit and inspect one- and- two family dwellings for roof construction and
reroofing in compliance with the International Residential Code Chapter 8 and 9
requirements as adopted and promulgated by the Louisiana State Uniform
Construction Code.
(3)Provide, upon request, individual permit data.
