[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 838 Original 2024 Regular Session Turner Abstract: Revises requirements for licensure of clinical laboratory scientists. Present law requires an applicant who is certified by a national certification agency recognized by the board and has not engaged in the practice of clinical laboratory science within the last 10 years to be granted a license in training to engage in the practice of clinical laboratory science in the category for which he is otherwise qualified until the supervised retraining period and the continuing education requirements are completed. Proposed law changes the year requirement from 10 to five and otherwise retains present law. Proposed law repeals the present law provision that allows any individual who desires to be licensed as a clinical laboratory scientist-generalist, clinical laboratory scientist-specialist, clinical laboratory scientist-technician, cytotechnologist, or laboratory assistant to qualify for licensure and be issued the appropriate license without examination prior to January 1, 1995. Proposed law also repeals the present law provision that allows the board, upon the recommendation of the committee, to license or certify, without examination an applicant for licensure who is duly licensed or certified in the same or comparable category for which he is applying for licensure or certification in this state if the qualifications for licensure of such applicant are at least equal to the qualifications required by proposed law. (Amends R.S. 37:1324(B); Repeals R.S. 37:1319) Page 2 of 2 CODING: Words in struck through type are deletions from existing law; words underscored are additions.
