HB 982 Reengrossed 2024 Regular Session	Walters
Abstract:  Provides relative to the composition of the La. Commission on Law Enforcement and
Administration of Criminal Justice.
Present law provides for the composition of the La. Commission on Law Enforcement and
Administration of Criminal Justice, and provides for 59 members of the commission.
Proposed law increases the membership to 63 by adding four members, one member from Caddo
Parish, one member from East Baton Rouge Parish, one member from Orleans Parish, and one
member from Jefferson Parish, each of whom shall be a community leader with prior law
enforcement experience or study within the law enforcement discipline from a university or law
school or an academic expert with prior law enforcement experience or study within the law
enforcement discipline from a university or law school and appointed by the governor.

Summary of Amendments Adopted by House
The House Floor Amendments to the engrossed bill:
1. Reduce the number of members from Orleans Parish and add a member from Jefferson
Parish.
2. Add the requirement that additional members be appointed by the governor.
