Bill / Enrolled Version

                            ENROLLED
2024 Regular Session
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 75
BY REPRESENTATIVE MCMAKIN
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to create a proper
indication of a merging lane for Exit 159 on the Essen Lane ramp of I-10 West.
WHEREAS, there is no indication that lanes merge at Exit 159 on the Essen Lane
ramp of I-10 West, and those who are traveling are unfamiliar with the merge; and
WHEREAS, most travelers are not aware that this is a merge lane which creates a
safety hazard on the interstate by forcing drivers to abruptly get into the center lane; and
WHEREAS, there are many accidents on this road due to a lack of indications; and
WHEREAS, proper signage would help eliminate accidents and provide drivers with
critical information, allowing them sufficient time to anticipate upcoming road changes and
adjust their driving accordingly; and
WHEREAS, it is essential to place indications before the merge point with enough
distance and visibility to properly alert the driver; and
WHEREAS, proper signage indicating the lane will merge is designed to help ease
congestion and reduce the length of traffic jams while simultaneously enhancing safety.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to create a proper
indication of a merging lane for Exit 159 on the Essen Lane ramp of I-10 West.
