HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 178

A RESOLUTION
To recognize Wednesday, May 1, 2024, as Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Day at the state
capitol and to commend the organizers, volunteers, and royal court of the 2024
Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival.
WHEREAS, the city of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, will hold its world famous Breaux
Bridge Crawfish Festival May 3-5, 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival began in 1960 as a spin-off of the
Breaux Bridge Centennial Celebration; and
WHEREAS, Breaux Bridge was a natural choice for such a festival because the
Legislature of Louisiana designated Breaux Bridge as the crawfish capital of the world in
1959, and the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is now known around the country and
throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, every May, thousands of hungry people flock to Breaux Bridge to take
part in the festivities; and
WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival has become one of the largest
gatherings of world famous Cajun musicians, and over the three-day festival weekend, more
than thirty musicians will play authentic Cajun, Zydeco, and Swamp pop music; and
WHEREAS, Cajun dance contests and Cajun music workshops are features of the
Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival, as well as crawfish races, a parade, a crawfish eating
contest, and a crawfish étoufée cook-off; and
WHEREAS, a Breaux Bridge heritage tent is a showcase of the festival, along with
a carnival midway and arts, crafts, and speciality items; and

WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is a past recipient of the Louisiana
Association of Fairs and Festivals Festival of the Year, Division II, and has received
numerous awards in marketing; and
WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival has been named a top twenty event
by the Southeast Tourism Society, and ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, the Food Channel, PBS, and
numerous filmmakers have made documentaries on the festival; and
WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival has been featured in publications
such as Southern Living, National Geographic, The New York Times, and Better Homes and
Gardens and the festival was named a top ten food festival by USA Today; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Legislature of Louisiana to designate
Wednesday, May 1, 2024, as Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Day at the state capitol.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 1, 2024, as Breaux Bridge
Crawfish Festival Day at the state capitol and commends the organizers, volunteers, and
royal court of the 2024 Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival for their pivotal role in bringing this
wonderful festival to the citizens of the state of Louisiana.
