HUNTERS/HUNTING. Provides for feral hog hunting. (8/1/24)
1	AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 56:116.1(D)(5), relative to feral hog hunting; to provide for weapon
3 restrictions; to provide for notification; and to provide for related matters.
4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
5 Section 1. R.S. 56:116.1(D)(5) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
6 ยง116.1. Wild birds and wild quadrupeds; times and methods of taking; penalties

8	D.(1) *          *          *
9	(5)(a) Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, the following
10 may be carried and used by a properly licensed or permitted hunter while
11 hunting and taking feral hogs in wildlife management areas:
12	(i) Centerfire rifles.
13	(ii) Centerfire handguns, including break-action, bolt-action, and scoped
14 centerfire handguns.
15	(iii) Shotgun slugs.
16	(iv) Shotgun shot larger than BB lead or F steel.
17	(b) Any person attempting to hunt or take a feral hog pursuant to this

1 Paragraph shall notify the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in accordance
2 with department rules and regulations.

Present law provides for restrictions on taking of outlaw quadrupeds, including feral hogs.
Proposed law retains present law and provides exceptions for the use of certain weapons by
licensed or permitted hunters to take feral hogs in wildlife management areas.
Effective August 1, 2024.
