2024 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 54 BY SENATOR SEABAUGH A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Kevin Jackson on being inducted into the 2024 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, each year the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of sports figures who embody the character, skill, talent, and accomplishment worthy of being named to the Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, the 2024 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes Kevin Jackson; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jackson has exemplified exceptional athleticism, leadership, and dedication throughout his illustrious career in wrestling and coaching; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jackson achieved remarkable success as a wrestler during his tenure at Louisiana State University (LSU) from 1983-1985, where he became a three-time All-American and a standout in the 82kg (181-pound) freestyle class; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jackson continued to excel in wrestling at Iowa State University (ISU), where he garnered his fourth All-America honor and contributed to the team's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) title win in 1987; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jackson's crowning achievement as a wrestler came in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, where he became only the second black wrestler to win an Olympic gold medal by defeating Elmadi Zhabrailov of the Unified Team; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jackson's dominance extended beyond the Olympics, as he secured gold medals in the 82kg division at the 1991 and 1995 World Championships and Pan Am Games, marking five major wins in a remarkable five-year period; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jackson's legacy in wrestling is further underscored by his status as one of only six U.S. men's freestyle wrestlers to claim at least three career world-level titles, solidifying his place among the sport's elite; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 54 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Kevin Jackson's commitment to wrestling extended to coaching, where he made significant contributions to the sport's development, serving as the freestyle coach for the U.S. at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games, guiding athletes to gold medal victories; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jackson's coaching tenure at ISU from 2010-2017 yielded remarkable results, including coaching four NCAA champions, fourteen All-Americans, and nine Big 12 champions, culminating in a third-place finish in his inaugural season as head coach; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jackson's numerous accolades, including the John Smith Award as National Freestyle Wrestler of the Year, recognition as the 1992 Amateur Wrestling News Man of the Year, and inductions into various prestigious halls of fame, highlight his enduring impact and influence on the sport. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Kevin Jackson on being inducted into the 2024 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
