A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Grambling State University Tigers men's basketball team for
their first appearance in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men's
Division I Basketball Tournament.
WHEREAS, the Grambling State University (GSU) Tigers men's basketball team has
exhibited outstanding skill and sportsmanship throughout the 2023-24 season with an overall
record of 20-14 and a conference record of 14-4; and
WHEREAS, the Tigers secured their first-ever trip to the NCAA Division I Men's
Basketball Tournament by winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC)
Tournament championship, defeating Texas Southern in a thrilling 75-66 victory; and
WHEREAS, the victory in the SWAC Tournament marked a historic achievement
for GSU, as it was their first conference tournament title since the school's inception and
paved the way for their debut in the NCAA Tournament; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Donte' Jackson, a three-time SWAC Coach of the Year
recipient, has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication in guiding the Tigers to
success, with a remarkable record of 119 victories as GSU's head coach; and
WHEREAS, the Tigers' participation in the NCAA Tournament's First Four against
Montana State signifies a significant milestone for the university, showcasing the talent and
determination of the players, coaching staff, and support personnel; and
WHEREAS, the members of this historic GSU men's basketball team include:
Kintavious Dozier, Jimel Cofer, Zahad Munford, Mikale Stevenson, Antwan Burnett,
Tra'Michael Moton, Jalen Johnson, Jourdan Smith, Jonathan Aku, Chilaydrien Newton,
Emeka Nnaji, Quintin Murrell, Terrence Lewis, William Reynolds, Payton Parrish and
Malik Lamin; and
WHEREAS, the team is lead by Head Coach Donte' Jackson, Associate Coach Kyle
Jones, Assistant Coach Devarus Walker, Assistant Coach Cameron Prather, Strength and

Conditioning Coach Dwight Carruth and graduate assistant Jerome Gray; and
WHEREAS, the entire GSU community, including students, alumni, faculty, and
fans, has rallied behind the men's basketball team, demonstrating unwavering support and
pride in their achievements.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate the Grambling State University Tigers men's
basketball team on their historic SWAC Tournament victory and their first-ever appearance
in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that best wishes are hereby extended to the
Grambling Tigers as they compete in the NCAA tournament.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Coach Donte' Jackson of the GSU men's basketball team.
