CORRECTIONS/PRISONERS: Provides relative to who may attend an execution of a death sentence 1 AN ACT 2To amend and reenact R.S. 15:570(A)(6) and to enact R.S. 15:570(A)(7), relative to the 3 execution of a death sentence; to provide relative to those persons required to be 4 present at execution; and to provide for related matters. 5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 15:570(A)(6) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S. 715:570(A)(7) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8 ยง570. Execution; officials and witnesses; minors excluded; time of execution; notice 9 to victim's relatives 10 A. [R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 207 Original 2025 Regular Session Moore Abstract: Adds a legal representative of the person who has been sentenced to death as a person required to be present for every execution of a death sentence. Present law (R.S. 15:570(A)) provides for a list of individuals who shall be present for every execution of the death sentence as follows: (1)The warden of the La. State Penitentiary at Angola, or a competent person selected by him. (2)The coroner of the parish of West Feliciana, or his deputy. (3)A physician summoned by the warden of the La. State Penitentiary at Angola. (4)A competent person selected by the warden of the La. State Penitentiary to carry out the authorized execution method. (5)A priest or minister of the gospel, if the convict so requests it. (6)Not less than five nor more than seven other witnesses. Proposed law retains present law and adds a legal representative of the person who has been sentenced to death.
