WATER/DRINKING WATER:  Provides with respect to the testing of drinking water
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 40:5.6(C), relative to testing of drinking water; to provide sample testing of
3 certain chemicals in drinking water; to require submission of sample testing to the
4 office of public health; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 40:5.6(C) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 
7 ยง5.6.  Safe drinking water; inspections and tests; cost

9	C.(1)  For every public water system compliance sample taken under the
10 Lead and Copper Rule established by the United States Environmental Protection
11 Agency's national primary drinking water regulations for drinking water pursuant to
12 42 U.S.C. Section 300g-1, the public water system shall also obtain a chlorine strip
13 test result from the same sample taken at the time of sample collection by the
14 homeowner.
15	(2)  The public water system shall submit the test results as required in
16 Paragraph (1) of this Subsection, along with the public water system's Lead and
17 Copper Rule test results, to the office of public health of the Louisiana Department
18 of Health.

Abstract: Requires sample testing of certain chemicals in drinking water.
Present law requires the office of public health of the La. Dept. of Health to perform all
inspections, tests, or procedures on public water supplies as authorized by federal law at no
cost to any municipality, parish governing authority, or any public or privately owned water
system.  
Proposed law retains present law.
Present law provides that the contaminants which are to be tested are those provided and
identified in accordance with federal safe drinking laws and regulations.  Present law also
provides such testing shall be performed at least once a year as long as funds are
appropriated.
Proposed law retains present law.
Proposed law requires, for every public water system compliance sample taken under the
Lead and Copper Rule established by federal regulations, the public water system to also
obtain a chlorine strip test result taken from the same sample.
Proposed law requires the chlorine strip test result to be submitted, along with the Lead and
Copper Rule test results, to the office of public health.
