State of Louisiana et al. 1 AN ACT 2Relative to the appropriation of monies out of the state general fund to be used to pay the 3 consent judgment captioned "Rodney Dean Brunet and Nora Earline Brunet 4 individually, and on behalf of Rodney Darrell Brunet versus State of Louisiana, 5 Department of Transportation and Development, Michelle Rae Chenevert, and 6 Central Louisiana Electric Company" between the state of Louisiana, through the 7 Department of Transportation and Development, and Rodney Darrell Brunet and 8 Nora Earline Brunet; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related 9 matters. 10Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 11 Section 1. The sum of Fifty Thousand and No/100 ($50,000) Dollars is hereby 12payable out of the State General Fund (Direct) for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 for payment of the 13consent judgment captioned "Rodney Dean Brunet and Nora Earline Brunet individually, 14and on behalf of Rodney Darrell Brunet versus State of Louisiana, Department of 15Transportation and Development, Michelle Rae Chenevert, and Central Louisiana Electric 16Company", signed on January 13, 2025, between the state of Louisiana, through the 17Department of Transportation and Development, and Rodney Darrell Brunet and Nora 18Earline Brunet, individually and as substitute plaintiffs for Rodney Dean Brunet, bearing 19Number 93-9977, Division B, on the docket of the Twelfth Judicial District, parish of 20Avoyelles, state of Louisiana. The judgment may only be paid from this appropriation if it is final and 2shall be paid as to principal, interest, court costs, and expert witness fees as awarded in the 3judgment. If the provisions of the judgment conflict with the provisions of this Act, the 4provisions of the judgment shall be controlling. Any other provision of this Act not in 5conflict with the provisions of the judgment shall control. Payment shall be made only after 6presentation to the state treasurer of documentation required by the state treasurer. Further, 7the judgment shall be deemed to have been paid on the effective date of this Act, and interest 8shall cease to run as of that date. 9 Section 3. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not 10signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature 11by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If 12vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become 13effective on the day following such approval.
