EMERGENCY MED TECH: Adds emergency medical services to the Fire Service Bill of Rights 1 AN ACT 2To amend and reenact R.S. 33:2012, relative to the Fire Service Bill of Rights; to provide 3 for the addition of emergency medical services; and to provide for related matters. 4Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 5 Section 1. R.S. 33:2012 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 6 ยง2012. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Service Bill of Rights 7 A. This Section may be referred to as the "Louisiana Fire and Emergency 8 Medical Services Service Bill of Rights". 9 B. There is hereby established a Fire and Emergency Medical Services 10 Service Bill of Rights to promote the rights of members of the fire and emergency 11 medical services service in Louisiana and to insure that their rights are safeguarded 12 and protected. This Fire and Emergency Medical Services Service Bill of Rights 13 consists of a statement, in nontechnical terms, of the rights of members of the fire 14 and emergency medical services service and obligations to them. The rights afforded 15 members of the fire and emergency medical services service are available insofar as 16 they are implemented in accordance with the Constitution of Louisiana and 17 Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, the administrative rules of state and local 18 governmental entities, and the budgetary consideration of state and local 19 governmental entities. To this end, this Louisiana Fire and Emergency Medical 20 Services Service Bill of Rights is enacted. The Louisiana Fire and Emergency Medical Services Service Bill of 2 Rights promotes the following rights for the members of fire and emergency medical 3 services service in Louisiana: 4 (1) Promotes each member of a fire and emergency medical services service 5 right to be recognized as first responder to all domestic emergencies. 6 (2) Promotes each member of a fire and emergency medical services service 7 right to be adequately protected from the dangers associated with emergency 8 response. 9 (3) Promotes the preparation of first responder families so members of the 10 fire and emergency medical services service can focus on their mission of responding 11 to domestic emergencies. 12 (4) Promotes each member of a fire and emergency medical services service 13 right to have their families provided for in the event of tragic death related to 14 performance on the job. 15 (5) Promotes each member of a fire and emergency medical services service 16 right to be educated in the latest fire and life safety sciences. 17 (6) Promotes each member of a fire and emergency medical services service 18 right to be provided with state-of-the-art equipment and apparatus to better handle 19 all emergency situations. 20 (7) Promotes each member of a fire and emergency medical services service 21 right to share innovative fire and life safety programs that have proven successful 22 across the nation. 23 (8) Promotes each member of a fire and emergency medical services service 24 right to fully understand and be able to effectively respond to incidents involving the 25 transportation, storage, and use of hazardous materials. 26 (9) Promotes each member of a fire and emergency medical services service 27 right to be fully informed of the threat of contracting infectious diseases during the 28 course of life safety activities.
