BUILDING CODES: Provides relative to standards when constructing a residential roof
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 40:1730.28.2(A)(4), relative to the construction of a roof in the coastal zone
3 boundary; to provide for fortified roofs on residential property in the coastal zone
4 boundary; to provide for requirements and standards; and to provide for related
5 matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 40:1730.28.2(A)(4) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 ยง1730.28.2. State Uniform Construction Code; requirements and prohibitions
9 A. The State Uniform Construction Code shall:

11 (4) For the entirety of a parish that is in the coastal zone boundary, as
12 designated by R.S. 49:214.24, require that the construction of a new roof or the
13 replacement of a roof on residential property shall meet or exceed the fortified roof
14 standards of the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety.

Abstract: Provides relative to the construction of a roof in the coastal zone boundary.
Present law provides for requirements and prohibitions for the State Uniform Construction
Code.
Proposed law retains requirements and prohibitions in present law and adds the requirement
that for the entirety of a parish that is in the coastal zone boundary, defined by present law,
all new roofs and replacement roofs constructed on residential property shall meet or exceed
the standards of a fortified roof.
