VETERANS:  Provides relative to healthcare facilities operated by the Department of
Veterans Affairs for war veterans
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 29:381, relative to war veterans healthcare facilities; to provide
3 relative to the authorization and maintenance of war veterans healthcare facilities;
4 to provide relative to eligibility; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 29:381 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
7 ยง381.  Authority to operate and maintain; definition of war veterans; eligibility of
8	other veterans and nonveterans
9	The Department of Veterans Affairs is hereby authorized to operate and
10 maintain health care healthcare facilities for war veterans with psychiatric and
11 geriatric conditions, and other such veterans and nonveterans as deemed eligible
12 under Title 38 of the United States Code, and certain nonveterans, National Guard,
13 or reservists who were not called to duty under Title 10 of the United States Code.
14 For the purpose of this Part, "war veterans" shall be construed to mean such
15 ex-service persons as were discharged under other than dishonorable conditions, and
16 who served in any branch of the armed forces of the United States during the period
17 of any war in which the United States participated, including the Korean Conflict,
18 or who performed such services after January 31, 1955, including the Vietnam era.

Abstract:  Provides for the eligibility of nonveterans, National Guard, or reservists who
were not called to duty under Title 10 of the United States Code (U.S.C.) to use state
war veterans healthcare facilities.
Present law provides that certain war veterans and certain veterans and nonveterans are
eligible to use state war veterans healthcare facilities.
Proposed law retains present law and expands eligibility to certain nonveterans, National
Guard, or reservists who were not called to duty under Title 10 of the U.S.C.
