TRANSPORTATION DEPT: Establishes the Louisiana Highway Construction Authority 1 AN ACT 2To enact Part IX of Chapter 2 of Title 49 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to be 3 comprised of R.S. 49:220.51 through 220.56, relative to the Louisiana Highway 4 Construction Authority, to create the Louisiana Highway Construction Authority; to 5 establish legislative intent; to provide for its authority and purpose; to provide 6 definitions; to designate certain powers and duties; to provide for its organization; 7 to provide for funding; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related 8 matters. 9Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 10 Section 1. Part IX of Chapter 2 of Title 49 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, 11comprised of R.S. 49:220.51 through 220.56, are hereby enacted to read as follows: 12 PART IX. LOUISIANA HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AUTHORITY 13 §220.51. Louisiana Highway Construction Authority; creation 14 It is the intent of the legislature to take necessary steps to accelerate the 15 efficient maintenance, preservation, rehabilitation, restoration, and improvement of 16 our state highways and bridges. 17 §220.52. Definitions 18 As used in this Part, the following term shall have meanings ascribed to them 19 below: 20 "Authority" means the Louisiana Highway Construction Authority". Powers, duties, and responsibilities 2 The authority shall have distinct powers, duties, and responsibilities, designed 3 to improve planning for the transportation needs of the public. 4 §220.54. Personnel 5 There shall be personnel to support the mission of the Louisiana Highway 6 Construction Authority to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the office. 7 §220.55. Funding 8 The authority shall seek avenues to secure resources for the planning and 9 construction of transportation efforts in the state. 10 §220.56 State department 11 The department shall work in conjunction with the authority on all projects 12 and plans pertaining to transportation needs in the state. 13 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not 14signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature 15by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If 16vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become 17effective on the day following such approval.
