HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 5
BY REPRESENTATIVE DEWITT
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To designate the town of Ball, Louisiana, as the Moon Pie Capital of Louisiana.
WHEREAS, Moon Pies are often associated with Mardi Gras and the South, and
pairing the treat with an RC Cola is a favorite pastime; and
WHEREAS, the town of Ball, Louisiana, hosted its first-ever festival, the Moon Pie
Festival, on March 23, 2024; the festival included an opening ceremony, a Moon Pie 5K
race, a costume contest, Moon Pie cutouts for photos, a Moon Pie eating contest, and a host
of children's activities; and
WHEREAS, Moon Pie Festival-goers were also able to enjoy beloved songs such as
"Gimme an RC Cola and a Moon Pie" by Big Bill Lister, "Lifestyles of the Not So Rich and
Famous" by Tracy Byrd, "Moon Pie" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and "The
Moonpie Song" by Bobby Mitchell; and
WHEREAS, Moon Pies are made in Chattanooga, Tennessee, by Chattanooga
Bakery, who gave the town of Ball its approval to host the Moon Pie Festival.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
designate the town of Ball, Louisiana, as the Moon Pie Capital of Louisiana, and does hereby
extend sincerest wishes that the town receive the support necessary to continue this beautiful
tradition for many years to come.
