HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 176
BY REPRESENTATIVE KNOX
A RESOLUTION
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Safaria
Angelique McFarland.
WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the House of
Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana has learned of the passing of Safaria
Angelique McFarland; and
WHEREAS, Safaria was baptized at the age of seven by her beloved uncle, the late
Bishop George A. Spears, Sr., at Antioch Baptist Church, and she served the church as a part
of its youth ministry and vacation Bible school ministry; later in life, she moved her
membership to United Christian Faith Ministries in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and worshiped
under the leadership of Dr. Mark A. Ellis; and
WHEREAS, Safaria was a proud 1999 graduate of Glen Oaks High School, and she
received both a bachelor's and master's degree in business management from Southern
University and A&M College in Baton Rouge; she earned a second master's degree from the
University of Phoenix; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McFarland was an incredibly gifted woman who possessed a
genuine passion for service, working as an educator and volunteering as a NYSP counselor
and Boys and Girls Club group counselor; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McFarland was most passionate about singing and praising God,
and she sang with Gary A. Spears & God's Anointed Singers, Arthur & Friends Community
Choir, and Bethesda; she had an eye for fashion such as jewelry, shoes, purses, and perfume,
and she truly cherished the time she spent with family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Safaria Angelique McFarland leaves to cherish her memory her devoted
and loving parents, Kenneth and Neomi McFarland; niece, Daija McFarland; godparents,
Georgia Brumfield and Willie Gordon; godsisters, Angela S. Smith, Kiyana G. Patton,
Anquista M. McCoy, and Debra G. Robertson; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and
friends; she will be deeply missed, but the legacy of her love shall live on in perpetuity in
the hearts and minds of those who were privileged to have known her.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Safaria
Angelique McFarland and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that her family, friends, and
loved ones find comfort in their shared memories of her beautiful life.
