BLANC, STAGNI, TARVER, TAYLOR, THOMAS, THOMPSON, TURNER, VENTRELLA, VILLIO, WALTERS, WILDER, WILEY, WILLARD, WRIGHT, WYBLE, YOUNG, AND ZERINGUE A RESOLUTION To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Steven "Steve" Joseph Miguez. WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana has learned of the passing, on February 24, 2025, of Steven "Steve" Joseph Miguez; and WHEREAS, Steven was born on November 2, 1953; he was a 1972 graduate of Catholic High School in New Iberia, Louisiana, and he studied at the University of Southwestern Louisiana from 1972 to 1975; and WHEREAS, after completing his education, Steven laid the foundation for a successful business career in Iberia Parish by founding Iberia Crew Boat & Marine Service in 1975; the company now operates a number of offshore vessels under a joint venture agreement with Seatran Marine, and many of these vessels were built at the family's shipyard in Loreauville, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Steve founded Miguez Fuel and Lubricants in 1992 and served as the company's president for many years; the company is now an authorized distributor of Page 1 of 3 HR NO. 20 ENROLLED Phillips 66 lubricants in the state of Louisiana and has locations in New Iberia and Baton Rouge; and WHEREAS, outside of his successful business career, Mr. Miguez loved competitive pistol shooting and achieved the rank of Master Shooter with the United States Practical Shooting Association; he traveled with his beloved sons to participate in numerous shooting competitions held across the United States; and WHEREAS, Mr. Miguez competed with the United States Senior Standard Team in international shooting competitions; in 2008, he and his team claimed a bronze medal at World Shoot XV in Bali, Indonesia; in 2014, his team won the silver medal at World Shoot XVII in Frostproof, Florida; he also competed with the team during the 2011 World Shoot event held in Rhodes, Greece; and WHEREAS, one of Steve's proudest moments was watching his son, Senator Blake Miguez, claim a gold medal and the world title for the United States at World Shoot in Rhodes; he and his family traveled to South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia, Ecuador, Greece, and France to watch his son compete in seven different World Shoot competitions; and WHEREAS, Mr. Miguez was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association of America, lifetime benefactor member of the United States Practical Shooting Association, former president of Cajun Action Shooters Club, certified range officer for the United States Practical Shooting Association, and a reserve deputy for the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Department; and WHEREAS, Steve truly cherished traveling the world with his beloved wife, Glenda; he enjoyed a number of hobbies, including wine making, cooking cane syrup, and picking fresh apples to make apple pie; he was an avid outdoorsman who spent time boating, fishing, and hunting with his family and friends, and he loved reloading ammunition for his sons during shooting competitions; and WHEREAS, Steve leaves to cherish his beautiful memory his beloved wife of forty- eight years, Glenda; sons, Blake Miguez (Ashley) and Ridge Miguez (Leslie); brothers, John (Betsy), Gene (Jennifer), James (Kim), and Kenny (Cynthia); sister, Ann; beloved granddaughter, Julianna; and a host of extended relatives and friends; he will be deeply missed, but the legacy of his love shall live on in perpetuity in the hearts and minds of those who were privileged to have known him. Page 2 of 3 HR NO. 20 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Steven Miguez and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that his family, friends, and loved ones find comfort in their shared memories of his beautiful life.
