SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates April 16, 2025, as AARP Louisiana
Caregiver Day at the state capitol
1 A RESOLUTION
2To designate Wednesday, April 16, 2025, as AARP Louisiana Caregiver Day at the state
3 capitol.
4 WHEREAS, Louisiana ranks forty-fifth in the nation on the Long Term Services and
5Supports State Scorecard; and
6 WHEREAS, in Louisiana, there are an estimated six hundred thirty thousand family
7caregivers who provide care to adult relatives or friends; the economic value of this care
8amounts to around $6.9 billion each year; and
9 WHEREAS, there are eleven thousand two hundred fifty individuals on waiting lists
10to receive assistance with day-to-day activities and housework; and
11 WHEREAS, nearly 90% of elderly Louisianians in need of assistance wish to remain
12in their homes and communities, where they can receive the support of friends and family
13as they age; and
14 WHEREAS, nearly three out of every four elderly individuals who receive at-home
15assistance rely exclusively on unpaid family caregivers.
16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
17Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Wednesday, April 16, 2025, as AARP
18Louisiana Caregiver Day at the state capitol and does hereby encourage all Louisianians to
19support caregivers and acknowledge their impact on the lives of the elderly in our state.
