COMMENDATIONS: Commends Jack and Jill of America, Inc., on its dedication to
stimulating the growth, development, and quality of life of children
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Jack and Jill of America, Inc., on its dedication to stimulating the growth,
3 development, and quality of life of children.
4 WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., was founded in January 1938 in
5Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Marion Stubbs Thomas and a group of twenty-one mothers
6who sought to create a social and cultural union for their children; and
7 WHEREAS, Jack and Jill expanded into several major cities including Pittsburgh,
8Baltimore, Boston, Buffalo, and Memphis, and the national organization was established on
9June 1, 1946; Jack and Jill of America was incorporated under the laws of the state of
10Delaware on August 28, 1947; and
11 WHEREAS, Jack and Jill is committed to improving the growth and development
12of children by providing educational, cultural, civic, health, recreational, and social
13opportunities; the organization aims to instill leadership qualities and to provide an
14opportunity for a valuable and productive adulthood to its members; and
15 WHEREAS, Jack and Jill created its philanthropic arm, the Jack and Jill of America
16Foundation, in 1968; the foundation is responsible for establishing and funding a large
17number of educational and charitable projects benefitting children and families across the
18United States; and
19 WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., is most deserving of the highest
20recognition for its unrelenting support of children across the United States.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
2Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Jack and Jill of America, Inc., on its
3dedication to stimulating the growth, development, and quality of life of children and does
4hereby extend sincerest wishes that the organization continue to prosper in its endeavors to
5improve children's lives.
