SCHOOLS/FOOD PROGRAMS: Memorializes the United States Congress to support
funding for the ability to focus on purchasing American agricultural products and the
removal of ultra-processed food and beverages from K-12 public schools

2To memorialize the United States Congress to support funding for the ability to focus on
3 purchasing American agricultural products and the removal of ultra-processed food
4 and beverages from K-12 public schools.
5 WHEREAS, the foods and beverages that are available for meals and snacks in K-12
6public schools can contribute to the overall health and well-being of students; and
7 WHEREAS, access to the best, most wholesome and nutrient-dense offerings can be
8limited for any given school or district depending on several factors; and
9 WHEREAS, food and food supplies, labor, and equipment and overhead are all costs
10to schools and districts relative to serving food to their students; Congress supporting
11reliable and robust funding for these efforts would add security to these efforts; and
12 WHEREAS, the ability to focus on purchasing American agricultural products and
13foods and beverages produced in the United States can help bolster the economy at home
14and solidify our economic priorities; consuming foods and beverages made with products
15grown closer to home is also a factor in health, as a shorter food supply chain can mean less
16handling and therefore less potential for contamination and, with less distance for food to
17travel, produce, specifically, is able to ripen naturally, resulting in higher nutrient content.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
19Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the United States Congress to support

1funding for the ability to focus on purchasing American agricultural products and the
2removal of ultra-processed food and beverages from K-12 public schools.
