HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 41
BY REPRESENTATIVE DOMANGUE
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Designates March 2025 as National Social Work Month
in Louisiana
1	A RESOLUTION
2To designate March 2025 as National Social Work Month in Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, for generations, Americans have entered the social work profession
4because they are passionate about helping improve the welfare of people, families,
5communities, and the United States as a whole; and
6 WHEREAS, this year, the theme of National Social Work Month is "Social Work: 
7Compassion + Action", which highlights the years of education and training required to
8attain the skills and expertise that social workers employ to elevate their compassion into
9actions that bring positive outcomes; and
10 WHEREAS, the social work profession has been a pivotal force in the push to
11improve living conditions in the United States; social workers successfully lobbied for Social
12Security, a forty-hour work week, Medicare, and a minimum wage; and
13 WHEREAS, social workers have helped the United States to live up to its values by
14successfully advocating for equal rights for all people, regardless of race, sexual identity,
15gender, gender expression, culture, or religion; and
16 WHEREAS, social workers' code of ethics establishes that the profession's primary
17mission is the enhancement of human well-being and meeting the basic human needs of all
18people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of those who are vulnerable,
19oppressed, and living in poverty; and
20 WHEREAS, social workers operate in all parts of society, including schools, social
21service agencies, veteran centers, and government agencies, and they help people, families,

1and communities secure the services and policies needed to thrive; they are at the forefront
2of the most pressing issues in the country, including advocating for increased mental health
3care for children and adolescents and substance abuse disorder treatments; and
4 WHEREAS, social workers help protect millions of children from abuse and neglect,
5provide services and support to help strengthen families that are under stress, and help to
6create new families though adoption; research shows that the presence of social workers in
7schools, hospitals, and assisted living facilities improves education, health outcomes, and
8quality of life for students, patients, and residents; and
9 WHEREAS, social work is one of the fastest growing professions in the United
10States, and more than eight hundred thousand Americans are expected to be employed as
11social workers by 2033; social workers are one of the largest groups of mental health care
12providers in the country, and they are advocating for the creation of a Social Work Interstate
13Licensing Compact to help improve mental health care delivery; and
14 WHEREAS, social workers continue to stand ready to assist the United States in
15overcoming challenges by advocating for improved health care and urging lawmakers to
16adopt immigration reforms.
17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
18Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate March 2025 as National Social Work Month
19in Louisiana and does hereby encourage all Louisianians to join the National Association of
20Social Workers in celebration and support of the social work profession.
