COMMENDATIONS: Commends Louisiana State University in Shreveport on its
contributions to northwestern Louisiana and the state
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Louisiana State University in Shreveport on its contributions to northwestern
3 Louisiana and the entire state.
4 WHEREAS, Louisiana State University in Shreveport (LSUS) is an integral part of
5the LSU System, providing high-quality, accessible, and affordable education to students
6across northwest Louisiana and beyond; and
7 WHEREAS, LSUS continues to be one of the fastest-growing universities in
8Louisiana, growing 133% over the past ten years, placing it in the top 1% of colleges and
9universities in the U.S. for growth in the past decade; and
10 WHEREAS, LSUS has achieved record enrollment three semesters in a row; it
11crossed the 10,000 student threshold in Spring 2024 for the first time in the university's
12history before breaking that record in Fall 2024 and setting yet another record in Spring 2025
13of nearly 11,000 students; and
14 WHEREAS, LSU at Shreveport continues to grow in every category --
15undergraduate, graduate, face-to-face, online, and dual-enrollment; and
16 WHEREAS, LSUS continues to develop new programs that are meeting student
17interests as well as current workforce needs in the community and throughout Louisiana; and
18 WHEREAS, LSU in Shreveport increased its first-year retention rate by a remarkable
197% in Fall 2024, and the university graduated a record 1,500 students in Fall 2024; and

1 WHEREAS, LSUS was recognized for the second year in a row in 2024 for attaining
2the highest Social Mobility Index score in the state, which measures how effectively
3institutions assist low-income students to graduate and assume well-paying jobs.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Louisiana State University in Shreveport on
6its contributions to northwestern Louisiana and the entire state and does hereby extend
7sincerest wishes that the university and its students continue to prosper in all of their
8endeavors.
