HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 61

A RESOLUTION
To designate Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as LSU Day at the legislature and to commend
Louisiana State University for its enduring contributions to the state of Louisiana.
WHEREAS, Louisiana State University (LSU), through its statewide campuses and
extension offices, constitutes the most comprehensive public higher education system in
Louisiana, fulfilling a mission centered on education, research, and service to the public; and
WHEREAS, the total LSU enterprise generated more than $6.1 billion in economic
impact last year, supporting approximately 45,700 jobs and contributing more than $2.4
billion in new statewide earnings – producing a return of $13.85 for every state dollar
invested and generating $690 in economic activity per Louisianian; and
WHEREAS, LSU serves as Louisiana's primary engine for workforce and talent
development, enrolling more than 68,700 students across all levels of study and awarding
more than 14,600 degrees last year in diverse disciplines including agriculture, engineering,
medicine, nursing, law, education, business, the humanities, and the sciences; and
WHEREAS, the university plays a vital role in retaining Louisiana talent, with 65%
of Louisiana residents who graduate from LSU campuses remaining in the state and 66% of
all LSU graduates working in their field of study with an average annual salary of $110,442;
and
WHEREAS, LSU-trained professionals are essential to Louisiana's healthcare
system, including two-thirds of all physicians and three-fourths of all dentists practicing in
the state, along with countless alumni serving in fields such as nursing, public health, mental
health, and therapy services; and

WHEREAS, LSU's strategic "Pentagon Priorities" in agriculture, biomedicine, coast,
defense, and energy are helping to address some of the most urgent needs of both Louisiana
and the nation; and
WHEREAS, LSU holds a research portfolio valued at $1.3 billion, actively
partnering with over one hundred thirty universities, nearly five hundred private sector
collaborators, and fourteen of fifteen federal cabinet-level agencies; the university has
reached new heights with $543 million in annual research expenditures and a place among
the top fifty-six global universities for utility patents; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Louisiana and supporters across the nation have
generously invested in LSU, and the university has returned that investment through
life-changing education, pioneering research, meaningful community engagement, and
widespread public service; and
WHEREAS, LSU continues to represent one of the most impactful and strategic
investments Louisiana can make in its people, its prosperity, and its future.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as LSU Day at
the legislature; does hereby commend Louisiana State University for its outstanding
contributions to the state; and does hereby extend sincerest appreciation and support for the
university's continued mission and success.
