HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 70
BY REPRESENTATIVE BRAUD
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Designates April 23, 2025, as Plaquemines Parish Day
at the state capitol
1	A RESOLUTION
2To designate Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as Plaquemines Parish Day at the state capitol.
3 WHEREAS, Plaquemines Parish is home to more than twenty-three thousand
4residents, is the site of many historic events, and serves an important role in the oil and trade
5industries; Plaquemines Parish was the first place in the United States where shippers used
6a container for cargo in foreign trade; and
7 WHEREAS, Plaquemines Parish is located along the last seventy miles of the
8Mississippi River, and it is the parish with the most combined land and water area in
9Louisiana; and
10 WHEREAS, the parish became known as Plaquemines after the French name for
11their military post, "piakimin", which means persimmon, a name given because of the
12numerous persimmon trees nearby; and
13 WHEREAS, Fort Jackson is a major historical site in the parish, dating back to 1822
14and built pursuant to a recommendation from General Andrew Jackson; the fort was used
15continually as a military site until World War I and remains in use as a cultural event center;
16and
17 WHEREAS, Plaquemines Parish has significant seafood and citrus industries and is
18the largest crude oil producing parish in Louisiana; the parish is home to Plaquemines Port,
19one of the largest ports in the United States and the site of Venture Global's Plaquemines
20LNG, one of the largest construction projects in the world; and

1 WHEREAS, Alayna Robichaux reigns as the 78th Orange Queen with great
2distinction and dedication, along with Orange King Wayne Cognevich; Gracie Gondrella
3reigns as Teen Orange Queen, and Olivia Munsterman holds the title of Orange Blossom
4over the Plaquemines Parish Orange Festival; and
5 WHEREAS, the royal court of Isabella Richoux, 2025 Seafood Queen, Leila
6Domingue, Teen Seafood Queen, and Mila Hua, Seafood Pearl, reign over the Plaquemines
7Parish Seafood Festival.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as Plaquemines
10Parish Day at the state capitol.
