SENATE BILL NO. 207

SECONDARY EDUCATION. Requires all pubic high school students to have access to
vocational and technical courses. (8/1/25)
1	AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 17:183.4 and 3996(B)(4), relative to public high schools; to require that
3 certain public school students have access to vocational and technical education
4 courses; to provide for agreements; and to provide for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 17:183.4 and 3996(B)(4) are hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 §183.4. Vocational and technical education; partnering with other schools to
8	provide courses
9	A. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, all public
10 high schools shall provide students the opportunity to enroll in vocational and
11 technical education courses.
12	B. A school that does not offer the vocational and technical education
13 courses that are chosen by the student and the student's parent may enter into
14 agreements to partner with other public schools or with one or more campuses
15 within the Louisiana Community and Technical College System to provide the
16 vocational and technical education courses for the student as required in
17 Subsection A of this Section.

3	B. Notwithstanding any state law, rule, or regulation to the contrary and
4 except as may be otherwise specifically provided for in an approved charter, a
5 charter school established and operated in accordance with the provisions of this
6 Chapter and its approved charter and the school's officers and employees shall be
7 exempt from all statutory mandates or other statutory requirements that are
8 applicable to public schools and to public school officers and employees except for
9 the following laws otherwise applicable to public schools with the same grades:

Present law provides for a career diploma as an option in high schools and consists of a
career major containing academic courses and modern career and technical studies.
Proposed law provides for that all public high schools provide students with the opportunity
to enroll in vocational and technical education courses. Provides that, if the school does not
offer the vocational and technical education courses that are chosen by the student and the
student's parent, the school may enter into agreements to partner with other public schools
or with one or more campuses within the La. Community and Technical College System to
provide the vocational and technical education courses.
Effective August 1, 2025.
