Designates Monday, April 21, 2025, as Light of Justice and Resilience Day in Louisiana. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To designate Monday, April 21, 2025, as Light of Justice and Resilience Day in Louisiana, 3 recognizing it as a statewide day of reflection and support for survivors of religious 4 clergy sexual abuse and honoring their resilience, pursuit of justice, and journey of 5 healing. 6 WHEREAS, survivors of sexual abuse by clergy have experienced profound trauma, 7 betrayal, and loss, with many carrying the weight of their experiences for years without 8 acknowledgment or justice; and 9 WHEREAS, survivors of religious clergy sexual abuse have bravely come forward 10 to share their stories, shining a light on the abuse they endured and advocating for change 11 within institutions and society; and 12 WHEREAS, these survivors have become voices for justice, leading efforts to hold 13 perpetrators accountable, reform institutional practices, and ensure the protection of future 14 generations from abuse; and 15 WHEREAS, the month of April is nationally recognized as Sexual Assault 16 Awareness Month, a time to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate 17 communities on how to prevent it; and 18 WHEREAS, National Crime Victims' Rights Week, recognized annually by the U.S. Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 6 SLS 25RS-223 ORIGINAL 1 Department of Justice, is observed in April to honor crime victims and highlight the progress 2 made in ensuring justice and support for survivors; and 3 WHEREAS, designating Monday, April 21, 2025, as Light of Justice and Resilience 4 Day will provide an opportunity for communities throughout Louisiana to honor survivors 5 of religious clergy sexual abuse and stand in solidarity with their pursuit of healing and 6 justice; and 7 WHEREAS, this day will serve as a powerful reminder that survivors are not alone, 8 their voices matter, and their resilience paves the way for a safer and more just society; and 9 WHEREAS, through education, remembrance, and action, Light of Justice and 10 Resilience Day will promote awareness, foster healing, and inspire continued advocacy for 11 survivor rights and protections; and 12 WHEREAS, the state of Louisiana remains committed to supporting survivors of 13 sexual abuse, addressing the impacts of trauma, and ensuring justice through 14 survivor-centered policies and programs. 15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 16 designate Monday, April 21, 2025, as Light of Justice and Resilience Day in Louisiana to 17 honor the courage and strength of survivors of religious clergy sexual abuse and to promote 18 statewide reflection on justice, healing, and resilience. 19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 20 TentMakers of Louisiana, in recognition of their steadfast advocacy for survivors and their 21 continued efforts to promote healing and justice.
