SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20

SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Designates Wednesday, April 16, 2025, as AARP
Louisiana's 10th Annual Caregiver Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To designate Wednesday, April 16, 2025, as AARP Louisiana's Tenth Annual Caregiver
3 Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
4 WHEREAS, Louisiana ranks forty-fifth in the nation on the Long Term Services and
5 Supports State Scorecard; and
6 WHEREAS, an estimated six hundred thirty thousand family caregivers in Louisiana
7 provide care to adult relatives or friends, with the economic value of this care estimated to
8 be roughly six billion nine hundred million dollars annually; and
9 WHEREAS, eleven thousand two hundred fifty individuals are on waiting lists to
10 receive assistance with activities of daily living in their homes and live in the setting of their
11 choice; and
12 WHEREAS, almost ninety percent of older adults in Louisiana who need assistance
13 with activities of daily living wish to remain in their homes and communities with the
14 support of friends and family as they age; and
15 WHEREAS, almost three-fourths of older people living in a community who receive
16 personal assistance rely exclusively on unpaid family caregivers for help.
17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
18 does hereby designate Wednesday, April 16, 2025, as AARP Louisiana's Tenth Annual

1 Caregiver Day at the Capitol.
2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted
3 to Andrew Muhl, director of advocacy at AARP Louisiana.
