SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 35
BY SENATOR BOUDREAUX 
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. To recognize Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as Big Brothers
Big Sisters Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To recognize Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as Big Brothers Big Sisters Day at the Louisiana
3 State Capitol.
4 WHEREAS, one-in-three kids grow up without a sustained, adult mentor in their life;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, Big Brothers Big Sisters programs in Louisiana are working to close
7 this gap through their mission to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that
8 ignite the power and promise of youth; and
9 WHEREAS, across our state, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana is in
10 its 46th year of service, while Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana is currently celebrating
11 its 40th anniversary; also, in the fall of 2024, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater New
12 Orleans announced its long-awaited relaunch; and
13 WHEREAS, these organizations are working tirelessly to unlock the potential of
14 Louisiana's children by creating and supporting relationships between young people, ages
15 six to young adulthood, known as "Littles", and their caring volunteer mentors, also known
16 as "Bigs"; and
17 WHEREAS, by partnering with parents, guardians, and volunteers, Big Brothers Big
18 Sisters holds themselves accountable for each child in their programs achieving higher

1 aspirations, greater confidence, better relationships, and educational success, as well as
2 avoiding risky behaviors; and
3 WHEREAS, a recently-released, groundbreaking study demonstrates that "Littles"
4 served by Big Brothers Big Sisters programs experience significant, positive long-term
5 outcomes from mentorship, including a 20 percent-higher likelihood of attending college,
6 a 15 percent increase in income between the ages of 20 to 25 compared to their
7 non-mentored peers, as well as improved behaviors and stronger social bonds; and
8 WHEREAS, this research shows that the mentorship connections cultivated by Big
9 Brothers Big Sisters not only impacts a young person's present, but also shapes their future,
10 contributing to reduced poverty, greater economic stability, and stronger communities; and
11 WHEREAS, the unwavering commitment, hard work, and dedication demonstrated
12 by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana,
13 and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater New Orleans, along with their mission to ignite the
14 potential of Louisiana's youth, is deserving of recognition and commendation.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
16 does hereby designate Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as Big Brothers Big Sisters Day at the
17 Louisiana State Capitol.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Big
19 Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana, and Big
20 Brothers Big Sisters of Greater New Orleans.
