COMMENDATIONS. Commends Lucio Miele, MD, PhD, on his appointment as director
of the LSU-LCMC Health Cancer Center.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Dr. Lucio Miele, MD, PhD, on his appointment as director of the LSU-LCMC
3 Health Cancer Center and to recognize his outstanding leadership, contributions to
4 cancer research, and dedication to improving cancer care and outcomes for the
5 citizens of Louisiana.
6 WHEREAS, Dr. Lucio Miele, a native of Naples, Italy, is a nationally and
7 internationally recognized leader in cancer research, with a distinguished record of service
8 in academic medicine, translational research, and cancer center administration; and
9 WHEREAS, Dr. Miele currently serves with great distinction as the Senior Associate
10 Dean of Research at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, Chair of the Department
11 of Genetics, and Cancer Crusaders Professor of Genetics; and
12 WHEREAS, prior to his tenure at LSU Health, Dr. Miele served as Director of the
13 University of Mississippi Medical Center Cancer Institute for five years and held other
14 notable leadership positions in cancer centers at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School
15 of Medicine and the University of Illinois Chicago; and
16 WHEREAS, Dr. Miele is widely respected for his contributions to both basic and
17 translational cancer research, with multiple awarded patents attesting to his innovation, and
18 his work has been consistently supported by competitive research funding; and

1 WHEREAS, his appointment as Director of the LSU-LCMC Health Cancer Center
2 marks a transformative step in the state's commitment to improving cancer care, with a focus
3 on reimagining, reinventing, strengthening, and modernizing the ways Louisianians prevent,
4 confront, and overcome a cancer diagnosis; and
5 WHEREAS, Dr. Miele's leadership will unify clinical, research, and outreach efforts
6 across the state, advancing Louisiana's capacity to address its disproportionate cancer
7 burden, reduce disparities, and provide access to cutting-edge care and treatment for all
8 communities; and
9 WHEREAS, his vision and dedication are expected to significantly enhance the
10 quality and impact of cancer services and biomedical research throughout the LSU Health
11 and LCMC Health systems; and
12 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Senate wishes to recognize Dr. Miele's accomplishments
13 and his ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes for the people of Louisiana
14 through innovation, leadership, and service.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
16 does hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Lucio Miele on his appointment as Director of
17 the LSU-LCMC Health Cancer Center and does extend sincere appreciation for his
18 dedication to the advancement of cancer research and care in the state.
19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Dr.
20 Lucio Miele.
