2727 An Act relating to hospital bad debts, claims denials and prompt payments.
2828 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2929 of the same, as follows:
3030 1 SECTION 1. Section 8(a) of Chapter 12C of the General Laws is amended by adding the
3131 2following sentence after the first sentence thereof:
3232 3 The center shall collect from each hospital its annual bad debt in total and broken down
3333 4by the payer that insured the patient, including all commercial payers, government payers, and
3434 5bad debt arising from services rendered to self-pay and uninsured patients; the claim denial rate
3535 6by each commercial and government payer along with the annual dollar value of denied claims
3636 7by payer; and an aged accounts receivable report by payer, and the center shall publish an annual
3737 8report disclosing such data by hospital.
