2828 An Act relative to noise reduction devices.
2929 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
3030 of the same, as follows:
3131 1 Section 10A of Chapter 269 of the Massachusetts General Laws is hereby amended by
3232 2deleting the section in its entirety and inserting in its place the following:
3333 3 Section 10A.
3434 4 Any person found to be in possession of a firearm suppressor who is:
3535 5 (a)a prohibited person under section 131 of chapter 140;
3636 6 (b)in the commission of a violent crime or felony;
3737 7 (c)in the commission of a crime of violence against a family member; 2 of 2
3838 8 (d)conducting sales or has possession of controlled substances as defined in chapter
3939 994C;
4040 10 shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than ten years in state prison or for not
4141 11more than two and one-half years in a jail or house of correction.
4242 12 The term “firearm suppressor” or “firearm noise reduction device” means any device for
4343 13muffling or diminishing the report of a portable firearm, including any combination of parts,
4444 14designed or redesigned, and intended for use in assembling or fabricating a firearm muffler, and
4545 15any part intended only for use in such assembly or fabrication. For the purposes of this section
4646 16the term “firearm suppressor” or “firearm noise reduction device” shall have the same meaning
4747 17as Federal Law 18 USC 921(24).
