[SIMILAR MATTER FILED IN PREVIOUS SESSION SEE HOUSE, NO. 2059 OF 2021-2022.] The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act expanding worker ownership training opportunities. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 Chapter 23H, Section 7, Subsection (i) of the General Laws is amended by inserting after 2the phrase “regional workforce needs of the Commonwealth” the following:- 3 The board shall ensure that worker-owners of employee-owned businesses, as defined in 4chapter 23D Section 1, including worker-owned limited liability companies taxed as partnerships 5as such term is used in such chapter, are eligible for opportunities to learn business ownership 6and development skills through training programs offered under the Workforce Investment 7Opportunity Act. 2 of 2 8 The Training Opportunities Program coordinated by the Department of Unemployment 9Assistance shall approve competent providers to offer training in business ownership skills to 10eligible unemployed workers. 11 Owners of Limited Liability Companies and independent contractors shall be permitted 12to be eligible for training funds under the On-The-Job program.
