An Act respecting autonomy in name choice for newly married partners.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 Chapter 46 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020 Official Edition, is hereby 
2amended by striking out section 1D and inserting in place thereof the following section:-
3 Section 1D . Each party to a marriage may adopt any surname, for example the present 
4or birth-given surname of either party, a previously-used birth-given surname, or any hyphenated 
5combination. Each party to a marriage may also adopt any first name, middle name or any other 
6name.
