3030 An Act establishing a commission to study post-traumatic stress disorder in law enforcement
3131 officers.
3232 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
3333 of the same, as follows:
3434 1 There shall be a special commission established pursuant to section 2A of chapter 4 of
3535 2the General Laws to study and investigate post traumatic stress disorder in law enforcement
3636 3officers. The commission shall consist of 2 members of the house of representatives, 1 of whom
3737 4shall be nominated by the minority leader, 2 members of the senate, 1 of whom shall be
3838 5nominated by the minority leader, the commissioner of public safety or a designee, the colonel of
3939 6the state police or a designee, the secretary of health and human services or a designee, the
4040 7commissioner of mental health and 3 members to be appointed by the governor, 1 of whom shall
4141 8be a representative of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association Incorporated. The
4242 9members of the commission may elect a member to serve as chair. As part of its study and 2 of 2
4343 10investigation, the commission shall review causes of post traumatic stress disorder among police
4444 11officers in the commonwealth, and identify the estimated prevalence of post traumatic stress
4545 12disorder among police officers in the commonwealth. The commission shall identify and analyze
4646 13methods, practices and programs, including those in other states, to prevent and treat post
4747 14traumatic stress disorder in police officers. The commission shall make recommendations for
4848 15which methods, practices and programs, including existing programs in the commonwealth, are
4949 16most effective in preventing and treating post traumatic stress disorder in police officers.
