2828 An Act to require liability insurance for gun ownership.
2929 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
3030 of the same, as follows:
3131 1 SECTION 1. Chapter 140 of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding the
3232 2following section:-
3333 3 Section 207. (a) Whoever possess, carries, or owns a firearm, rifle or shotgun without a
3434 4liability policy or bond or deposit required by the provisions of this chapter which has not been
3535 5provided and maintained in accordance therewith shall be punished by a fine of not less than five
3636 6hundred nor more than five thousand dollars or by imprisonment for not more than one year in a
3737 7house of correction, or both such fine and imprisonment. This section shall not apply to a person
3838 8who possesses a firearm, rifle, or shotgun on a temporary basis while on the premises of a
3939 9licensed gun club. 2 of 2
4040 10 (b) The commissioner of insurance shall promulgate regulations set forth for the
4141 11minimum terms of liability insurance policies which shall satisfy the requirements of this section.
