2626 An Act relative to the POST Commission.
2727 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2828 of the same, as follows:
2929 1 SECTION 1: Section 2 of Chapter 6E of the Massachusetts General Laws, as appearing
3030 2in the 2020 official edition, is hereby amended by striking Section 2 in its entirety and adding in
3131 3place thereof the following:
3232 4 Section 2. (a) There shall be a Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training
3333 5Commission consisting of 11 members: 3 of whom shall be appointed by the governor, 1 of
3434 6whom shall be a police chief, 1 of whom shall be a retired justice of the superior court and 1 of
3535 7whom shall be a social worker appointed from a list of 5 nominations submitted by the National
3636 8Association of Social Workers, Inc., Massachusetts chapter; 3 of whom shall be appointed by the
3737 9attorney general, 1 of whom shall be a law enforcement officer below the rank of sergeant who is
3838 10a labor union representative appointed from a list of 3 nominations submitted by the Chair of the
3939 11Massachusetts Law Enforcement Policy Group, 1 of whom shall be a law enforcement officer
4040 12appointed from a list of 5 nominations submitted by the Massachusetts Association of Minority 2 of 2
4141 13Law Enforcement Officers, Inc. and 1 of whom shall be an attorney licensed to practice law in
4242 14the commonwealth appointed from a list of 5 nominations submitted by the civil rights and social
4343 15justice section council of the Massachusetts Bar Association; and 3 of whom shall be appointed
4444 16jointly by the governor and attorney general, 1 of whom shall be appointed from a list of 5
4545 17nominations submitted by the Massachusetts commission against discrimination.; and 2 of whom
4646 18shall be appointed by the Massachusetts District Attorney’s Association, 1 of whom shall be a
4747 19sworn member of the Department of State Police who is appointed from a list of 2 nominations
4848 20submitted by the President of the State Police Association of Massachusetts, and 1 of whom shall
4949 21be a Juvenile Diversion Program professional appointed from a list of 2 nominations approved
5050 22by a majority of the Board of the Massachusetts District Attorney’s Association.
