| 32 | 32 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | of the same, as follows: |

| 34 | 34 | | 1 SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, all positions in |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | 2the police department of the town of Needham, including the position of chief of police, shall be |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | 3exempt from chapter 31 of the General Laws. |

| 37 | 37 | | 4 SECTION 2. This act shall not impair the civil service status of a person holding a |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | 5position described in section 1 on the effective date of this act. |

| 39 | 39 | | 6 SECTION 3. Notwithstanding section 2, no appointment or promotion made after the |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | 7effective date of this act shall be subject to chapter 31 of the General Laws. |
