| 29 | 29 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of the same, as follows: |

| 31 | 31 | | 1 Chapter 118E of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 10J the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 2following section:- |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | 3 Section 10K. (a) The following words as used in this section, unless a different meaning |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 4is required by the context or is specifically prescribed, shall have the following meanings: |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | 5 “Licensed physician” or “surgeon”, a physician or surgeon licensed pursuant to chapter |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | 6112. |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | 7 “Sonographer” or “vascular technologist”, a non-physician who is qualified by national |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | 8credentialing to perform diagnostic medical ultrasound, including a ultrasound technologist or |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | 9sinologist. 2 of 2 |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | 10 (b) The division shall require that a sonographer or vascular technologist who, provides |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | 11the technical component of a diagnostic ultrasound service to an individual receiving services |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | 12pursuant to this chapter shall be credentialed in the appropriate modality by the American |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | 13Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Credentialing International or |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | 14shall practice in a laboratory accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | 15American Society for the Intersocietal Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories, or the |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | 16Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories. |

| 47 | 47 | | 17 (c) Any sonographer or vascular technologist who is credentialed as required in |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | 18paragraph (b) shall perform the diagnostic ultrasound under the supervision of a licensed |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | 19physician or surgeon. |
|---|
| 50 | 50 | | 20 (d) This section and policies and procedures adopted pursuant to this section shall not |
|---|
| 51 | 51 | | 21prohibit any physician or surgeon licensed pursuant to chapter 112 from performing the technical |
|---|
| 52 | 52 | | 22component of a diagnostic ultrasound. |
