2727 An Act relative to automatic re-enrollment in the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

2929 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
3030 of the same, as follows:
3131 1 SECTION 1. Section 1 of Chapter 174 of the Acts of 2022 is hereby amended by
3232 2inserting after the word “benefits” the second time it appears the following: -
3333 3 “When developing such portal, said agencies shall ensure that individuals and households
3434 4who apply and receive fuel assistance through the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance
3535 5Program will be automatically re-enrolled for such benefits for the following heating season, so
3636 6long as such persons or households continue to meet the federal and state eligibility
3737 7requirements, as determined by the Department of Housing and Community Development. For
3838 8the purposes of this section, the term “heating season” shall mean the period between November
3939 91 and April 30 of each year, unless otherwise designated by the Department of Housing and
4040 10Community Development.”
