2727 An Act expanding certain discount tolls for private passenger vehicles.
2828 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2929 of the same, as follows:
3030 1 SECTION 1. Section 13 of chapter 6C of the General Laws, as appearing in the Official
3131 2Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the word “Chelsea”, in line 89, the following
3232 3words:- , the city of Revere.
3333 4 SECTION 2. Subsection (b) of said section 13 of said chapter 6C, as so appearing, is
3434 5hereby further amended by inserting after the first sentence the following sentence:- The
3535 6department shall establish a zone-based toll discount program for account holders who: (i)
3636 7participate in the department’s electronic toll collection system; and (ii) are residents in
3737 8municipalities north of the city of Boston that are located adjacent to United States highway
3838 9route 1. The program shall provide discounted tolls for private passenger vehicles for transit
3939 10through the Sumner tunnel and the Ted Williams tunnel and over the Maurice J. Tobin Memorial
4040 11Bridge based upon each municipality’s proximity to those toll collection sites. 2 of 2
4141 12 SECTION 3. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
4242 13contrary, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation shall:
4343 14 (i) charge or collect a toll for use of the Maurice J. Tobin Memorial Bridge by private
4444 15passenger vehicles registered in the city of Revere, the town of Winthrop and Essex county in the
4545 16same amount as it does for such vehicles registered in the city of Chelsea; and

4747 18 (i) charge or collect a toll for use of the Sumner tunnel by private passenger vehicles
4848 19registered in the city of Revere, the city of Chelsea, the town of Winthrop and Essex county in
4949 20the same amount as it does for such vehicles registered in the East Boston neighborhood of the
5050 21city of Boston.
